This project provides an objective scientific understanding of the proportion of endangered plants in each region/country.

&Process

During the production of the project, my group and I first identified endangered plants in the selection of the endangered species data 'IUCN Red List Index May 2022' and then developed our design story.

For the sketch construction, I referred to the 100 Greatest Movies Data Visualization from Katie Silver, imagining it as a horizontal composition to turn it into a forest - the main visual element of our diagram.

Concept:
︎︎︎The formula of the Forest ‘Index’

In this way, we could pay attention to the condition in a holistic way, rather than criticizing a particular country only with more endangered plants.

When dealing with data, we use tableau
to help us build the underlying chart model.

Outcome

The Overview Map

We have created a series of designs based on the format posted on Instagram. the outcome is divided into three main sections︎︎︎

1/ The Overview Map
The main distribution areas of endangered plants and the proportion of endangered plants in the total plants in these regions.

2/ Three Top Regions
Three continents with the most endangered plants and their typical endangered plants to encourage people protect endangered plants with this knowledge.

3/ The Most, Typical Species
